Catherine Limón, violinist, is a Denver native and comes from a family of musicians and music educators. As a free-lance musician, her performing experience is diverse. She began her career in Santa Barbara, California, studying with Stefan Krayk, first violinist of the Paganini String Quartet. She attended UCSB School of Music as first violinist on a string quartet scholarship. She performed in the Santa Barbara Symphony and the Santa Maria Symphony and was soloist in the Music From Bear Valley Festival Orchestra. Returning to her home town of Denver, Catherine studied with Jesse Ceci, concertmaster of the Denver Symphony, who also became her husband. While married to Jesse, Catherine became adept at orchestral performance under his tutelage. In the summers between orchestra seasons, she played with the Carmel Bach Festival and performed with the Las Animas String Quartet in Durango as well as the Whistler International Mozart Festival in British Columbia. Also during summers, she performed for many years with the Colorado Music Festival.
She received her Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Music Education and Suzuki Pedagogy from the University of Denver Lamont School of Music. She has recorded music for 9 News and Channel 2 News, played weddings from Estes Park to Beaver Creek, served as concertmaster of the Longmont Symphony and Centennial Ballet Orchestra, performed as guest concertmaster for the Mahlerfest Orchestra and conducted the Longmont Symphony Chamber Players, which she founded. In Longmont, she was conductor of the Longmont Youth Symphony and taught violin and viola at the Alexander Dawson School. She taught in Denver Public Schools at Mitchell Montessori, an inner-city Suzuki program for children in kindergarten through 3rd grade. The children performed in many venues in Denver to rave reviews. Catherine has played with Opera Colorado, Colorado Ballet Orchestra, the Denver and Colorado Symphonies, the Denver Chamber Orchestra, the Four Seasons Chamber Orchestra, Sinfonia of Colorado, Boulder Philharmonic and Boulder Chamber Orchestra. In addition, Catherine has taught private violin and viola lessons in her home to students from age three to adult for many years. She especially enjoys teaching all levels from beginning to adult and adapting repertoire to each student based upon their interests and passions.
